Job Description
Primary Responsibilities of the Network Engineer include:
• Proactively monitor Pillsbury network, servers, SAN, and critical applications to detect, resolve problems, and ensure uninterrupted IT operations worldwide.
• Proactive monitoring and management of HVAC Systems, UPS, generators, power circuit utilization, running health and safety checks at all Pillsbury sites.
• Coordinate with system owners to determine the best way to monitor system heath while minimizing “false positives”.
• Develop situational awareness reports for Engineering management detailing our resource utilization, recent system events, and overall system health.
• Introduce automation platforms for routine Engineering task to improve reliability and minimize human error.
• Respond to systems outages and provide basic problem isolation and resolution and/or escalate to 2nd level engineering as appropriate.
• Alerting the Service Desk and Engineering Management to widespread user outages cause by Engineering infrastructure. Opening Service Desk tickets for ongoing infrastructure issues and tracking the progress of resolution.
• The ability to escalate issues to 3rd party originations such as Telephone companies, or other technology manufactures or VARs.
• Planning, evaluating and executing Pillsbury’s network maintenance activities.
• Running failure test on critical systems to determine if our High Availability posture is working as designed.
• Install, configure, and maintain NOC monitoring software such as SolarWinds Orion, APC StruxureWare, LogRhythm SEIM, Mimecast, Cisco Prime, Cisco DVR/Security, and etc.
• Maintain administrative remote access infrastructure at all of Pillsbury’s server rooms such as IP KVM’s and Serial Terminal servers for in and out-of-band management.
• Developing and maintaining support documentation including run books, support guides, knowledgebase articles and procedures, system owner escalation list.
• Maintain asset inventory for all data centers, computer rooms, and wiring closets worldwide.
• Assist engineering teams with backend projects as directed and appropriate (time permitting).
• Facilities provisioning such as installing racks, setting up power, installing Ethernet, fiber and console cabling at remote sites and Datacenters
Qualifications for this position include:
• Bachelor’s degree in information technology or Computer Science.
• A Basic understanding of LAN networking technologies: Ethernet, Spanning Tree, 802.1q, 802.1x, Enterprise Wi-Fi, DHCP, DNS.
• A Basic understanding of WAN networking technologies: TCP/IP v4, OSPF, BGP, Cisco/Viptela SDWAN, and general telecom circuit troubleshooting.
• A solid working knowledge of Cisco IOS & NxOS CLI for troubleshooting network issues.
• A good working knowledge of Firewall configuration and logging as required for troubleshooting.
• A solid understanding of the Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and its associated technologies such as Active Directory.
• Knowledge regarding the following vendor products: VMWare, Microsoft Windows, Cisco Routers & Switches Palo Alto Networks Firewalls, Network Appliance SAN’s, APC power systems
• Knowledge of network cabling, network classification and network topology
• Knowledge of VoIP technology
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to handle multiple support cases
• Strong writing skills to maintain organized documentation
• Customer-oriented, and capable of providing high levels of client satisfaction
• Collaborate and work well with others
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs. and install equipment into any position in a computer cabinet or rack.
• Must be able to travel to domestic and international remote offices for engineering projects as required.
